Byzantine GNT Family 35

Paul Anderson informs me that the Center for the Study and Preservation of the Majority Text has just published the 'Byzantine Greek New Testament: Family 35 Textform' at www.bgnt.net. The pace of publication of new GNTs is beginning to pick up.

  1. Manuscript 35 is a representative of the KappaR textform, the latest attested and most tightly controlled of the Byzantine textual strands. It will be interesting to see how the textual apparatus is developed in future.

Thanks for the link to the "bgnt" website. I read their purpose statement for the project and was wondering if the work is in anyway a response to the Nestle Aland 28 GNT and its corresponding electronic database called the "ECM"? If anyone has any insights, I'd like to know more. I've noticed over the years when Nestle Aland or UBS has released editions of their Greek New Testaments, the Majority Text guys release new editions as well.

    Mahlon,

The purpose of our edition and project is not to supplant or replace any existing edition of the GNT but to offer interested scholars and the public a Byzantine text edition of the GNT which will allow for easy comparison and identification of all main Byzantine textual groupings and families. The selection of fam. 35 is not intended either to serve as CSPMTs perspective of the 1st text or the Ausgangstext but simply as a consistent MS based Byzantine text form for comparison purposes.

In addition, the BGNT edition will cite major lectionary editions and MSS in its apparatus allowing for easy comparison with continuous text groupings. Also, the Ecumenical Patriarchal (Antoniades) Orthodox GNT will be consistently cited in a textual apparatus.

We are thankful to God for this opportunity to offer this to the public from a Byzantine/Traditional text perspective.

    In Christ,

    Paul Anderson
